Timber Frame Floor Plan Feature: The Seaside

The Seaside timber frame home design by Davis Frame Company was originally created for a Cape Cod ocean-front property. The Seaside model has been a favorite for many years and has been represented as one of our finest timber frame homes we have designed and built over the years. The timber frame home features 3,884 sq. ft. and 5 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms as well as 2 half baths. The timber frame home was designed to capture waterfront views from various rooms of the home. The homeowners certainly came up with a dream ocean front custom home design and the ocean front home has become apart of our line of custom timber frame floor plans.

A 26-foot cathedral ceiling combined with a wall of windows in the timber frame great room offer a superb view of the water. Off of the great room is an open kitchen and dining room. The kitchen offers an eat-in area and has stools so that guests can chat with the chef. The open kitchen and dining room was designed to be able to offer plenty of room to entertain. A spacious first floor master bedroom is intentionally set apart from the other living quarters on the second floor. The master bedroom has its own walk-in closet, ensuite bathroom and private porch area.

There is plenty of space on the second floor that generously accommodates guests and family. All four bedrooms and the loft on the second floor take in a view of the ocean. Multiple decks and porches provide outdoor living areas where it’s easy to relax.

Classic Barn Floor Plan Feature: Classic Colonial 1A

Colonial homes were a very popular style home from 1690 until the 1830's. The distinctive features of a colonial style home include the squared, symmetrical shape, central door, and straight, aligned windows on the first and second floors. At Davis Frame, we created two colonial floor plans that can be found in our Classic Barn Home line that features traditional and popular homes that were built by our ancestors.

For a fresh take on tradition, we designed the timber frame Classic Colonial 1A to provide an open and spacious floor plan with 2,464 sq. ft. The living room, dining room and kitchen are all open to one another making this timber frame home perfect for entertaining. Open concept homes are very popular and we have taken this approach to almost all of our timber frame designs which creates space and warmth. The first floor also includes a master suite with a walk in closet and a full bathroom. To add a bit of luxury the first floor plan, we designed it to include a fireplace in the living room and one for the master bedroom. Another additional benefit of our traditional style colonial home floor plan is that it not only provides traditional beauty but also is designed to be very energy efficient.

The second floor includes three bedrooms and two baths to create plenty of room for a growing family. We have also made one of the bedrooms into a guest suite, featuring its own bathroom to give your guests privacy. Another full bathroom is shared between the other two bedrooms. A loft space also is on the second floor offering an additional sitting area or place to put your computer.

If you are interested in building a colonial home without using timber framing, eSIPS, our division of panel homes can provide you with a panelized version of this home! All of Davis Frame's floor plans can easily be transformed into a panelized home floor plan, call 800.636.0993 for details!

Custom Timber Frame Floor Plan Feature: Bungalow 1

The Arts and Crafts Movement in American architecture at the turn of the century shifted the focus of design away from cookie-cutter designs of the Industrial Revolution and encouraged a return to unique and fine craftsmanship. The timber frame Bungalow 1 was created to pay respects to the design principles of that movement while incorporating a home layout that suits a modern lifestyle. Bungalows also typically include a large front porch. This timber frame Bungalow offers a porch with timber posts and is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of iced tea with your guests.

This timber frame floor plan features almost 1,700 square feet of living space. There is a spacious timber frame living room that opens up into the dining room. To the left of the dining room is a nice sized kitchen. The first floor also offers a master bedroom suite as well as a bathroom for guests to use when visiting.

On the second floor, family and guests will enjoy the exposed timber rafters in the two spacious bedrooms and bathroom.

Nothing is more comforting than this classic home design and the Bungalow is the perfect floor plan if you are looking for warmth, comfort and practicality in your new home. If you want a Bungalow style home and would like energy efficiency without the use of timber framing, consider our division of eSIPS panelized homes! An eSIPS panelized home will still offer you beauty and energy efficiency with the Davis Frame expertise!

Solar Power Expected to grow

(groSolar solar panel product shown above)

The Washington, D.C.-based Solar Electric Power Association has released a new report, “Utility Procurement Study: Solar Electricity in the Utility Market,” which is aimed at improving large-scale solar acquisition by electric utilities. It also provides ideas for future project procurement. In 2008, more than 5,000 megawatts of new photovoltaic and concentrating-solar-power projects were announced. Combined with the 8-year extension of the federal investment tax credit, the market is expected to grow significantly. The tax credit allows electric utilities to utilize the credit by owning or investing in solar projects. In addition, the potential effect of the new administration’s stimulus package with an emphasis on renewable energy is anticipated to be dramatic. The research report is based on the results of two studies: one conducted to explore traditional methods for the procurement of large-scale solar electricity by the utility market and a parallel study to explore innovative methods of solar-energy acquisition. The full report is available for download at: http://www.solarelectricpower.org/.

The article proves that now is the time to go green and to look into sustainable products for your new timber frame or panelized home. Almost any home can have solar products incorporated into it to maximize energy efficiency and reduce energy costs.

Solar Panels and Passive Solar Design for your Timber Frame Home

With energy costs rising, there needs to be alternative solutions to fix our current energy crisis in the United States. One way to cut your utility bills down, save energy and be kind to the environment is to incorporate green building techniques into your home. Here at Davis Frame Company, we can help you minimize energy costs by using passive solar design techniques to build your new timber frame home. We firmly believe that by incorporating green building techniques such as passive solar design and the use of solar related products will maximize energy efficiency for your timber frame or SIPs home.

Last week we received information from an associate of ours, who works for groSolar. With many of our natural resources depleting over time and continually polluting the earth, groSolar has created great solar products to offer to those who wish to help our energy crisis that has been building up for years. groSolar has two solutions to help you build your new energy efficient timber frame home. The company first offers residential solar electric systems (solar panels) that will provide clean and sustainable energy solutions for your home. There are many benefits to using solar panels for your new timber frame home. First and foremost, the government offers a federal tax credit for incorporating a solar panel system. Some states even offer cash incentives. The incentives are continually growing as the U.S. is constantly trying to find ways to reduce energy consumption.

To find out what incentives your state may offer, please visit DSIRE which has incentives listed for each state in regards to using renewable energy and making your home energy efficient. Other benefits by using groSolar products for your new home are: increased value of your home or commercial property, energy dollars are kept in the U.S., long term reliability, easy to use with timber frame structures and simple to install and operate.

(Vermont Davis timber frame home with solar panel system)
groSolar also offers solar hot water systems. This product will help you reduce your energy consumption which reflects on the environment and will also save you money. A solar hot water production system can provide enough energy to meet 70% of your hot water needs. Don't be scared about the costs of using a solar hot water system, between the tax credits, your state's incentives and the amount of money you will save over time, this will be well worth the investment.

Many of our past clients have incorporated some form of solar technique into their timber frame homes. Almost all of our clients try to maximize the use of natural light and use the design of their home to reduce energy consumption, which is what is called passive solar design. We have also had several past clients that have incorporated solar panels. Our Independent Representatives Doug and Leanne Smith in Oregon have built two timber frame homes that use solar panels. The Smith's have even received an Earth Advantage certification due to all the solar materials and green building techniques they incorporated into their timber frames. The Smith's timber frame homes are truly remarkable and maximize energy efficiency and save them money with a reduction in energy without sacrificing beauty.
