Vermont Home Adds Timber Frame King Post Trusses

Below are pictures of the timber frame accents being raised for a conventional home near Stratton Mountain, Vermont. The Davis Frame shop finished working on the timber frame King Post trusses about two weeks ago and the timber frame accents were shipped out and installed last week by the project's builder Mike Lynn of Rocky Dell Builders, Inc. of Dorset, Vermont.

This is the third conventional style home in Vermont this year to add Davis Frame timber frame accents to their new home! You don't have to build a full timber frame home to enjoy the elegance of a timber frame. Timber frame trusses are often added to great rooms of conventional homes. Call us today at 800.636.0993 to speak with our project coordinators about your project!

First Home Buyer Tax Credits and Repeat Buyer Tax Credits

For first home buyers and repeat home buyers there are tax credits available to you! Are you looking to build a new home? Check out our Davis timber frame homes and eSIPS homes and build one today to receive your tax credit! Call us at 800.636.0993 and speak to one of our projects coordinators about your project.

For first home buyers who wish to receive $8,000 credit:

Instead of buying a new home from a home builder, I hired a contractor to construct a home on a lot that I already own. Do I still qualify for the tax credit?Yes. For the purposes of the home buyer tax credit, a principal residence that is constructed by the home owner is treated by the tax code as having been “purchased” on the date the owner first occupies the house. In this situation, the date of first occupancy must be on or after January 1, 2009 and on or before April 30, 2010 (or by June 30, 2010, provided a binding sales contract was in force by April, 30, 2010).

For repeat home buyers who wish to receive $6,500 tax credit:

Instead of buying a new home from a home builder, I hired a contractor to construct a home on a lot that I already own. Do I still qualify for the tax credit?Yes. For the purposes of the home buyer tax credit, a principal residence that is constructed by the home owner is treated by the tax code as having been “purchased” on the date the owner first occupies the house. In this situation, the date of first occupancy must be after November 6, 2009 and on or before April 30, 2010 (or by June 30, 2010, provided a binding sales contract was in force by April 30, 2010).In contrast, for newly-constructed homes bought from a home builder, eligibility for the tax credit is determined by the settlement date. Be sure to check with a tax advisor in cases where a HUD-1 form is not used at settlement to be sure you have sufficient documentation to attach to IRS Form 5405.

*Information on the tax credit provided by the Government. Note there is an income cap and the building value of the house is capped. Check the Federal Government site for more details: http://www.federalhousingtaxcredit.com/

If you don't wish to build a new home before the tax credit cut-off date, there are always tax credits available for energy efficient features added to a new home! Learn about how you can become Energy Star Certified with the use of timber frame, SIPS panels and our energy efficient doors and windows!

Floor Plan Feature: The Fieldview

The Fieldview timber frame floor plan was another popular floor plan that we had featured on our old Davis Frame website, before the redesign. The Fieldview was a frequently requested floor plan. This timber frame home was designed for a New York timber frame homeowner in the late 1980's, but it seems as though the floor plan is still attractive to many looking to build a new home. The overall look of the Fieldview resembles many of our Classic Barn Home floor plans.

The home also has a cupola which is a desirable feature that many of our clients like to ad. This gives a home a barn like look and allows additional lighting in. Cupola's are often an option that homeowners add to their barn style timber frame homes.

The first floor plan features a large great room and an open concept dining room and kitchen. A spacious master suite is also located on the first floor. The great room leads to a large deck that is perfect for entertaining guests in the summer.

The second floor includes two bedrooms, a full bath and a good sized loft that is open to below.

If you are interested in learning more about the Fieldview floor plan or about of line of Classic Barn Homes, contact us today at 800.636.0993!

Cape Cod Timber Frame Homes: A Martha's Vineyard Dream

marthas vineyard post and beam home

Post & Dream
Reprinted from Cape Cod & Island Homes, 2006 Holiday Issue

By:Greg O'Brien

Inside this timber-frame home in West Tisbury, life is sweet.

In the finished basement of his impressive Davis Frame timber frame home in West Tisbury on Martha's Vineyard, Paul McDonald reaches into a storage area, sorting through the dusty residue of cinderblock, and pulls out a brass ring. "It's from the Flying Horses," he says, referring to Oak Bluffs National Historic Landmark, the nation's oldest continuously operating carousel. The brass ring, in so many ways, symbolizes McDonald's idyllic life on the Vineyard and the rock-solid, country-style home that holds it all together. At 43, the veteran lobsterman has grabbed the brass ring indeed. "It's worked out pretty sweet," he acknowledges.

First came love-Paul met his wife Karen on the ski slopes of Sun Valley, Idaho. Then came marriage, the baby carriage (twice), and the dream of planting roots on the Vineyard. McDonald, who grew up in Braintree in a family of nine boys and two girls, summered on the Vineyard throughout high school and college, operating a successful lobster business for six years before heading west to ski. Also a natural handyman, McDonald worked with his brother in Marshfield, and later out west, assembling post and beam barn homes. It was no surprise when he and Karen ventured back to the Vineyard dreaming of a timber frame of their own in peaceful West Tisbury. They purchased almost two acres on the lip of the pastoral Sheriff's Meadow preserve, and began to plan the house of their dreams. McDonald's goal at the time: complete the project in one year, from CAD drawings to open house..........click here for the rest of the article.
