Unique Timber Frame Structure: A Riverside Boathouse

Foundation work being done for vermont pavilion

We recently worked on a boathouse project in Windsor County, Vermont. This new timber frame boathouse is not traditional where you drive the boat right in, its rather a structure to store the boat on shore. The homeowner may eventually add a lift gate to bring his boat ashore. This boathouse design could easily be transformed into a traditional style post and beam boathouse where one can drive their right boat in.

This simple, yet beautiful timber frame design offers many possibilities. With summer officially in swing, its nice to dream about adding a timber frame structure like this to your yard! We think this unique timber frame structure would make a great pool house, covered timber frame pergola to host summer barbecues or even enclose it to create a guest house. Personally, I'd love to have this in my backyard to entertain family and friends!

Check out the boathouse photos below:

New Timber Frame Home Construction in Vermont

timber frame assembly

Timber frame assembly

This new 31'X47' timber frame home was designed by Wilson Architects and is currently being built by Sisler Builders in Lamoille County, Vermont! The 1,630 square foot home will be connected to an existing barn on the property. The homeowners chose a simple timber frame bent system and beautiful Douglas fir timbers to display in their new home. To add to the character of the barn that it will be attached to, a cupola will be adorned on the rooftop of the timber frame. Along with aesthetics, cupola's are often used to bring natural light in.

The home will feature a mudroom to the right of the entrance and straight ahead will be a large 16'X31' cathedral ceiling timber frame great room that will feature a nice stone fireplace, perfect for enjoying cold winter evenings. The great room will open up into the spacious kitchen to create a nice airy and open flow. Off to the right of the kitchen will be a laundry area and furthest to the right will be the master bedroom suite equipped with a walk-in closet and bathroom. A spiral staircase will lead to an open lofted area that will be the perfect place to enjoy the beauty of the timbers.

A Timber Frame Getaway on Nantucket

This post and beam home is a vacation home located on nantucket

Over the years, we have worked on well over 25 timber frame and post and beam projects on the islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. It's no wonder why these islands are popular destinations during the summer months, both islands feature plenty of shoreline, beaches and many unique local shopping outlets and restaurants.

Back in 1999, Steve Petty, our Cape Cod and Islands timber frame representative worked with a client on their Nantucket timber frame vacation home. The interior of the timber frame home features Eastern white pine timbers and white washed tongue and groove pine on the ceiling to give this timber frame ultimate island charm; the exterior features cedar shingles that have naturally weathered, a classic look for many homes located on Cape Cod and the Islands. While this is an older project of ours, its a true cottage beauty that must be shared!

Check out the interior photos below:

This post and beam living room features a standard ceiling height rather than the traditional cathedral ceiling often found on the first floor of a timber frame home. The whitewashed tongue and groove adds a nice contrast against the pine timbers.

The living room opens up into the dining area, making this a great entertaining space for the whole family.

To keep the space open and spacious, the dining area opens into the spacious kitchen which then flows into a den.
